From Gloom to Gratitude, One Woman's Tumultuous Journey to 'The Other Side' of Fifty!Challenges and triumphs: Staving the Tide of Midlife Malaise by Eva PascoThe natural ebb and flow of my body's tide surged and pummeled me in my forties. Fibroid tumors encrusted my uterus the way barnacles attach to a rust bucket. Excessive blood flow, menorrhagia, robbed me of vitality, rendering me anemic. Worn and bedraggled from the surf's relentless pounding, my skin took on a yellowish cast and charcoal smudges orbed my eyes. A hysterectomy was a life preserver tossed to save me from walking the plank of menopause. Nevertheless, after turning fifty, I underwent my own midlife malaise inside the brig of mindpause. I stockpiled magical elixirs for firming, contouring and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. I overindulged my fragrance addiction by amassing hordes of eau de parfums whose shallow reservoirs of 'juice' became reflecting pools for my restlessness. While drifting in this shallow harbor, I came to the realization that we cannot win the war against our biological clock. However, the hands of time move forward with optimism on our psychological clock to encourage reinvention and spawn a midlife renaissance. Creativity, cunning, poise, and self-confidence are by-products of maturity, the divine rites of passage for ports of entry in the Second Act of Life. A pump of adrenalin from my psyche nudged me to summon strengths that had slumbered during a previous career. Reviving my dormant talent of creative writing, I penned a novel targeting an audience of Baby Boomer babes. The voyage of midlife is a spiritual opportunity to set sail for adventure while navigating uncharted waters to unexplored shores. May favorable winds of imagination and optimism enable you to stay afloat on choppy seas. Anchors away!
